Respect. Attention to Detail. Accessibility.

It’s really that simple, not to mention it feels good to operate this way in all aspects of business ownership.

Respect

Respect for oneself, the customer, the product and the process. This means simple stuff like taking care of oneself, eating right and getting enough sleep. Really listening to the customer. Corresponding with customers in a timely manner. I’ll leave telephone messages and follow up with an email followed by another phone message and email or two.  Even snail mail if need be. Informing customers when I’ve added neckwear which I think they will like.  Working with the customer. Handling the merchandise with care, from the time it is acquired, photographed, bagged and shipped. Placing the shipping labels squarely on the packages. Appreciating every aspect of the process from beginning to end.

Attention to Detail

This means making sure that the website has a consistent look throughout. Taking the time to photograph each and every men’s tie with a 13 million mega-pixel digital camera for maximum detail. Color correcting each photograph so that it matches the look of the tie as closely as possible. Carefully checking each and every vintage necktie for possible flaws and pointing them out since the customer cannot physical touch the product. Going the extra step before shipping out an order by giving ties a once over.  Making certain that all products are packaged the same and carefully placed into their envelopes to make sure they don’t arrive at their destination all mangled up. Sending a personal email to each customer after their order has shipped.

Accessibility

Offering multiple ways for a customer to reach us: by toll free number, email, and regular mail. One of the worst things a business can do is make it difficult for a person to reach someone, anyone! I was recently on a website which only listed an email, even when placing an order! And don’t forget, sometimes people planning to place an order online call first to see if they can reach an actual living breathing person and to verify that a business is legitimate. It pays to take the time to do things right!
