The words “Beijing 2008″ and the five Olympic rings neatly fit within the plaid pattern. Do you know what five continents the rings represent? Mind you, the symbol of Olympic Games was designed in 1913 and debuted in the 1920 Antwerp Games. They are America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania (this including Australia).
Today there are believed to be five to seven continents, depending on who you talk to and where you live! European students and those from other parts of the world are taught that there are 6 continents, those being America, Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Australia and Europe.
Scientists combine Asia and Europe (since they are one land mass) and believe that the six continents are Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Eurasia, North America, and South America. Well, the football season is over but basketball is in full swing.
For year round sports fans, this Snoopy – B Ball Beagle Basketball Tie is a must have! Snoopy is having a helluva a fun time dribbling, passing and scoring points for his team. The fence in the background adds a nice touch for people who like to play a good game of one-on-one in their neighborhood.

With football on my mind, I found a tie appropriate for today. This Tabasco football novelty tie features two blimps hovering over a stadium filled with football fans. A city by a river sits in the background.
Tabasco ties are among my favorite food novelty ties because they combine ones love of hot food with other themes and hobbies, such as golf, seafood, computers, billiards, skiing, surfing, alligators, even the Mount Rushmore American presidents enjoying a soft drink and their favorite hot sauce!
Most all of the neckties are made of printed silk as is this football tie, although I have come across some made of cotton as well.
Countess Mara neckties have changed over the years. While the CM logo and nine point coronet has remained a constant in that all of the ties feature it, sometimes it is printed and other times it is machine stitched. I look to the logo as one of the ways in which I date these designer men’s ties.
When Countess Mara opened her shop for business in 1938, she began her venture by printing novelty themes as well as her logo onto the ties. Sometimes the logo was incorporated in the design and not always near the tip. Click here to see an example of one of her skinny 1950’s tie with a printed logo. By the 1960’s, the wide Kipper style ties began to sport machine stitched versions at the tip. This continued into the 1980’s. In the 1990’s the ties lost the logo altogether.
Today Randa Accessories owns the license and manufactures Countess Mara ties with a crown stitched at the very end of the thin end, where no one can see it! This unusual Countess Mara tie hails from the 1990’s and features the logo inside the crest with the crown just above. I’ve included close ups of a stitched logo and a tie without a logo below.
January 8th marked our second anniversary, and I must say it has been a wonderful journey! We have met many interesting people who share our love of ties and really appreciate the personalized service that we provide to each and every customer.
Over the past year we have changed the look of the site and have added a few more features to make navigation throughout the site a breeze. Many of our customers have bookmarked our site and regularly return to their favorite categories to view the newest additions. We’ve created a New Arrivals page for all neckties I’ve just added. In fact ties are further separated by the week in which I add them, up to 4 weeks worth!
We got a call one day from a customer who loves our thin neckties but found wading through 12 pages and 600 neckties a daunting task and requested that we make that section more user friendly. He said he knew the width he preferred, and while he likes all skinny ties, the ones produced during the 50’s and 60’s were his favorites. We really appreciated his input and two days later all of our narrow neckwear was separated by width and era! All newly added skinny ties are listed in their own category. We are in the process of revamping portions of the site to make it even more fun and easy to find your favorite ties. For one, we will be adding a hand painted tie category (right now they are located in the Art & Music tie page) and a Save The Children category. Also, the Sports & Games tie page will have additional links for each type of sport.

There’s nothing like combining your love of Looney Tunes with your passion for football! This action packed tie features Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny attempting to tackle Taz as he goes in for a touchdown.
There is nothing static about the scene and the colors are equally vibrant. As is typical of the Looney Tunes Mania brand ties which were produced in the 1990’s, the tag indicates this tie was part of their 1993 collection. On occasion the company makes both polyester and silk versions of the same necktie. This one is polyester.
